Raising money for the University Hospital Coventry – Special Care Baby Unit
This year’s event will feature all the usual attractions: hundreds of vintage cars, motorcycles, military vehicles, steam engines, and lorries alongside demonstrations such as falconry on horseback. Once again there is plenty to keep the kids entertained and a large beer tent for the grown ups! All this and much much more to enjoy whilst supporting a very worthwhile cause!
Last year the crowds turned out in their thousands! The weather was glorious and £10000 was raised for our charity – Motor Neurone Disease Association, helping make disease sufferer, Simon Adams’ dream of raising £1 million for the charity a little closer to becoming a reality. The organisers thank all those who came and helped make this a truly wonderful weekend.
This year’s charity is University Hospital Coventry’s Special Care Baby Unit. Staff working in this unit give 100% dedication, support and attention to the special babies in their care. The heartfelt support to bereaved parents is also outstanding but with your help more can be done. By supporting our event you can ensure that the support and care for these little people and their families is the best it can be at the most vulnerable time of their lives.
More about the unit:
Sick newborn babies born in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond* are cared for at the regions Special Care Baby Unit (also known as a Neonatal Unit) located at University Hospital.
The unit provides:
Intensive care to a range of babies from the smallest and sickest premature babies of 23-24 weeks to full term newborn babies.
Supportive care including input from Paediatric Pharmacist, Dietician, Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Ophthalmology and Radiology services.
Specialist care in the evaluation of babies with suspected congenital heart disease with Echocardiography.
Stabilisation and retrieval care for sick new born babies travelling to our Unit from another hospital.
UHCW Charity has helped to fund state of the art equipment including new ventilators, “Giraffe” incubators and to provide facilities so parents can stay close to their baby, including two bedrooms, kitchen facilities and a quiet room. We also help mum and dad treasure special moments, such as sending a mother’s day card if baby is in the Unit on this special day and by giving them a picture, hand and foot print of their baby on the 100th day of life.
We sincerely hope you are able to join us on the 9th and 10th July and help make this event as successful as previous years
